Bone Marrow Match Drive for Gabe Ibarra

May 31, 2012

In March, 2012 FASRI student Gabe Ibarra was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a blood disorder in which the body's bone marrow does not make enough new blood cells. The only cure for this condition is a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, Gabe's younger brothers were not a match and he will need an unrelated bone marrow donor. While waiting for a match, Gabe has needed red blood cell and platelet transfusions and may begin an immune suppression therapy to increase his blood counts. Gabe looks forward to beginning high school in the fall, competitive swimming again with his team and rocking with his band.

Join the drive to find a donor by coming to FASRI on Thursday, May 31 from 3pm to 5.30pm in the FASRI cafeteria. Minimal paperwork and a cheek swab is all that is needed to join the Bone Marrow Match Registry. Let's help Gabe find a bone marrow match!
